The Cops and Kids Citywide Championship took place on Thursday night. The two teams showed up and put on one of the best flag football championship games in Cops and Kids history. The game was by far the most competitive game of the year. Both teams came into the game undefeated and with their eyes on the prize. The game was back and forth with both the Bronx and Brooklyn scoring on their first possessions. Brooklyn had a chance to seal the deal in the 4th quarter but a late game interception by the Bronx put a stop to that drive. The Bronx with under 1 minute left in the game tried to drive down the field in hopes of scoring but the time ran out and the game had to be decided in overtime. In overtime, the Bronx team won the coin toss and decided to take the ball first. Under the Cops and Kids overtime rule both teams would get a possession to score in overtime, so the Bronx started from the 40yd line and marched down the field and scored a touchdown. Brooklyn tried to answer back but their QB was picked off by a Bronx defender and that’s how the game ended. Both teams played with so much camaraderie, it was unfortunate that one team had to lose that night. The final score was 42-36 for the Bronx team out of the 41st Pct. Congratulations to both teams on a great season.
