The Sports and Recreation Dept would like to announce the Cop of the Week honors goes to Police Officer Shaun Bertin (#14) from the 30th Precinct. Sharing a team-high 14 points for Manhattan North, Bertin was the proverbial "immovable object" with his offensive rebounds & tip-in scores, his robust post defense, and his positioning of teammates on the perimeter as "the anchor of the defense" in a highly competitive and tight 45-43 win over the 109th Precinct, the Queens North representatives.
Bertin is a Class of 2016 inductee of the Queens College Athletics Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in Men's Basketball. Bertin (2002-06) was one of the top performers for the Knights in the mid-2000s, helping Queens College claim the 2005 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Championship and a semifinal berth in the conference tournament the following season. During his career, Bertin tallied 1,402 points, 10th all-time and 702 rebounds, fourth-best in program history. Bertin led the NYCAC in field goal percentage twice, finishing in the top 20 nationally in the category each time. He was a First Team All-Conference honoree in 2006, and an All-Met Second Team selection in 2005.
Player of the Week honors goes to Jeuny Rondón (#9) who also scored a team-high 14 points along Bertin. Rondón found a way to stay involved as a team leader on the bench despite fouling out in the middle of the second half. Presently a 5'11" senior point guard at A. Phillip Randolph Campus High School, Rondón averages 9.57 points per game, 8.57 rebounds per game, and 5.21 assists per game this season for his Varsity Boys' Basketball team. Also an avid bowler, Rondón has an average score of 100.17 pins per game and a game high of 144 pins on the Varsity Boys' Bowling team.
